MINISTER VISITS NELSON FOREST DISTRICT - Last but not least! Minister Bell’s visit to the Fort Nelson Forest District on Sept. 9, 2009 marks the completion of his goal to visit all 29 forest district offices to talk with all ministry staff about local forestry issues and his priorities for forestry in B.C.

MSMA RISK ANALYSIS REPORT RELEASED - A recently released research report on monosodium methanearsonate (MSMA) concludes that people are not at risk as a result of MSMA's former use for bark beetle control. Report
GOVERNMENTS OF CANADA AND B.C. INVEST $14M IN JOBS - This Community Adjustment Fund and Job Opportunities Program investment supports 45 projects throughout the province and will create immediate employment for workers and help communities impacted by the economic downturn. INPUT INVITED ON KOOTENAY LAKE TIMBER SUPPLY REVIEW - The ministry invites the public to comment on an updated timber supply analysis of the Kootenay Lake timber supply area. Comments will be accepted until Nov. 5, 2009.
$60,000 FROM COMMUNITY TRUST SUPPORTS FORT ST. JAMES TRAINING - The funding will open up spaces for more than a dozen displaced forest workers to receive certification in building maintenance including skills like carpentry, dry wall, electrical and plumbing.
$61,380 FROM COMMUNITY TRUST EMPLOYS FOUR WORKERS - The funding will benefit communities along Highway 5 from Valemount to Vavenby with the assessment of mountain pine beetle affected trees and the removal of trees that pose a potential safety hazard.
$110,000 TO SUPPORT TRADES TRAINING IN THE CARIBOO - The Community Trust funding will allow School District 28 and the College of New Caledonia to bring new trades training courses to Quesnel for displaced forest workers.
$444,000 FROM COMMUNITY TRUST FOR UNBC CONNECTOR TRAIL SYSTEM - The funding will help 18 workers to conduct forest regeneration, trail clearing and construction of 8.5km of new trails that will provide linkages for the community of Prince George to UNBC, Cranbrook Hill Greenway and Forests for the World.
$308,000 FROM COMMUNITY TRUST TO BENEFIT GOLDEN - The funding will employ eight resource workers to complete upgrades and maintenance on 23 recreation sites including danger tree assessments, fuel hazard reduction and improvements to wharves and campsites.
$300,000 SUPPORTS FIRST NATIONS YOUTH FORESTRY TRAINING - Thanks to the Community Trust funding, more than 20 First Nations youth are graduating from a seven-week life skills program that provides training for future careers in forestry.
$170,000 FROM COMMUNITY TRUST TO BENEFIT CARIBOO-CHILCOTIN - The funding will employ 20 resource workers to carry out Douglas-fir Beetle mitigation and grassland ecosystem restoration at numerous sites near 100 Mile House, Churn Creek and Toosey.
