SIMPLIFIED RESOURCE ROAD RULES BENEFIT INDUSTRY, USERS - British Columbians are invited to comment on better regulation of natural resource roads until Dec. 15, 2011.
FORESTRY PROCESSES TO BE STREAMLINED - The Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Statutes Amendment Act, 2011, introduced Oct. 4, 2011 will streamline processes under the Forest Act, Foresters Act and Resort Timber Administration Act.
B.C. SETS YEARLY CHINA LUMBER EXPORT RECORD - British Columbia has broken another record in lumber exports to China this year - with shipments already surpassing 2010's final year-end record total.

MINISTER PRESENTS TWO FOREST SAFETY AWARDS - At the sixth annual Vancouver Island Forest Safety Conference in Nanaimo, Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Steve Thomson, Vice-President of WorkSafeBC Donna Wilson, and BC Forest Safety Council CEO Peter Lineen (R), presented two awards for outstanding contributions to ensuring safety in the forest industry. Westline Harvesting of Williams Lake received the 2011 Safety MVP of the Year Award for the company's proactive approach and clear focus on safety in the workplace and Duncan's Sig Kemmler, Co-Founder, President and General Manager of Alternative Forest Operations Ltd. received the Cary White Memorial award for his leadership and lifetime commitment to ensuring safety in the woods.

NORTH ISLAND STUDENTS CELEBRATE NATIONAL FOREST WEEK - On Sept. 22, students from Sunset Elementary School in Port McNeill celebrated National Forest Week with a forest tour that included tree planting and learning more about B.C.’s forests.

STUDENTS GET UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH NATURE - As part of National Forest Week, students from Christ Church Cathedral School got up close and personal with nature as they examine a burned out tree at Francis/King Park. The tree is now habitat for bats.

FOREST & RANGE EVALUATION PROGRAM WINS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE - A provincial program to help ensure British Columbia's forests are managed in an environmentally sustainable way has received national recognition. The Forest and Range Evaluation Program (FREP) received the Gold Trophy Award from the Canada Awards for Excellence for having fully met the highest level of the quality criteria for public sector excellence.
WOOD INNOVATION CENTRE WILL CREATE JOBS FOR GENERATIONS - As of Oct. 7, 33 design options have been received for the new Wood Innovation and Design Centre in Prince George. In September, Premier Christy Clark called on architects, designers and engineers for ideas on how to create the world's tallest multi-use wood building.
MABEL LAKE FOREST SERVICE ROAD TEMPORARILY CLOSED - Travellers are advised that the Mabel Lake Forest Service Road in the Lumby area will be closed at the 32-kilometre mark from Monday, Oct. 10 through Monday, Oct. 31, 2011. The closure is to allow for replacement of the bridge over Tsiuis Creek to improve public safety.
