A Place of Pride in 2010

The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is being held on the traditional territories of the Squamish Nation, Lil’wat Nation, Musqueam Nation and Tsleil-Waututh Nation, collectively known as the Four Host First Nations (FHFN). In February this year they joined forces with the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) to welcome leaders from across Canada to downtown Vancouver as they unveiled the exciting plans for the 2010 Aboriginal Pavilion.

The pavilion will use the latest technology, including a 65-foot high inflated multi-media sphere, to showcase the diversity of Aboriginal art, business, culture and sport from across Canada. Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal visitors will enjoy this experience in the relaxed, informal setting of the pavilion.

The $3.5-million construction project, supported by VANOC and the FHFN, will create a traditional Coast Salish Longhouse, featuring a 1,500 square-foot Trading Post. In addition, the adjacent 2,000 square-foot QE restaurant will be converted into a reception hall, featuring Aboriginal exhibits and cuisine.

The pavilion will be a place for all Canadians to come together during the Games to celebrate British Columbia’s rich history and culture. It will be a place to experience the stories and traditions of the Four Host First Nations, recognizing their importance to the past and the future of B.C.

The pavilion opens in February 2010 and will run throughout the Winter Olympic Games.
